Is it okay to have a cash bar at our wedding if they make the cocktail hour and wine at dinner?
I'm in the midst of planning my wedding and the budget is out of control. Would it be totally tacky to have a cash bar? We are sponsoring the cocktail hour with open bar, unlimited wine served during dinner and champagne toast. That seems like enough for me to drink, but I do not want a cheap look.
Honestly depends of what is acceptable for your area and for social / cultural circle. What you are providing would only be acceptable where I grew up, but as you can see the other answers, other parts of the world is a huge blunder label. I would talk to your parents and some friends and get their views on it, and who have a better idea of what is acceptable in your area and in your social circle. But as I said, free wine, champagne and alcohol during the cocktail hour I think reasonable. Maybe throw something at dinner drinks for the designated driver to drink.
